Sustainability Measurement & Reporting System (SMRS)

Overview How It Works Benefits of SMRS Glossary

Overview

In navigating multiple stakeholders' interests centered on the social, environmental and economic challenges we face today, we find the
need to more accurately quantify and communicate the sustainability of products. The challenge before us, then, is to work collaboratively and develop an approach that drives better understanding, standardization, transparency and informed decision making.

The Sustainability Consortium is developing a standardized framework for the communication of sustainability-related information throughout
the product value chain. The framework, called the Sustainability Measurement & Reporting System (SMRS) serves as a common, global platform for companies to measure and report on product sustainability. It enables rigorous product level Life Cycle Assessments to be done
at a fraction of today's time and cost, and provides a platform for sustainability-related data sharing across the supply chain.

With the SMRS, companies can improve the quality of decision making about product sustainability. This enables companies to design better products, effectively manage the sustainability of upstream supplies and suppliers, and communicate product sustainability downstream
to consumers.
