Arthur P.J. Mol is currently Rector Magnificus and vice-chairman of Wageningen University & Research centre, the Netherlands. He was professor and chair of Environmental Policy at Wageningen University; professor in environmental policy at Tsinghua University, China; professor in enviornmental policy at UKM, Malaysia; Director of the Wageningen School of Social Sciences, the Netherlands. He continues to be joint editor of the journal Environmental Politics. He worked extensively in Southeast and East Asia, East Africa, and the EU. His research topics include social theory and the environment, globalization, informational governance, greening production and consumption, sustainable value chains and environment and development. He is at the editorial board of eight international journals and two book series. He is board member of the research committee Environment and Society of the International Sociological Association.
He published around 200 internationally peer reviewed articles, and around 100 book chapters. His latest books are Environmental Governance in China (edited together with Neil Carter; Routledge, 2007), Partnerships, Governance and Sustainable Development. Reflections on theory and practice (edited together with Pieter Glasbergen and Frank Biermann; Edward Elgar, 2007), Environmental Reform in the Information Age. The contours of informational governance (Cambridge UP, 2008),The Ecological Modernisation Reader (edited with Gert Spaargaren and David Sonnenfeld, 2009 Routledge) and China's Local Envuironmental Politics (edited with Genia Kostka, 2014 Routledge). He recently was guest editor of special issues in Global Environmental Change (2011), Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning (2013), Energy Policy (2013) and Journal of Cleaner Production (2015).
