Katie Anderson is a Project Manager on Environmental Defense Fund?s corporate engagement team. Her work focuses on engaging with a wide range of companies across the supply chains to reduce deforestation, improve water quality and decrease greenhouse gas emissions from food production. She has expertise on both domestic and international agricultural issues, including forests, water quality, soil health and climate impacts. Katie has a Masters of Environmental Management and Bachelors of Science from Duke University.
Rob is a Director of Business Development for Henkel and has provided sustainability leadership and support to Henkel's North America sales organization as well as to Henkel international sales teams. Rob has been the liaison between Henkel's sustainability leadership team, R&D team, sales teams and customers since 2008. His primary objective in this capacity is to align Henkel corporate sustainability strategies with key customers and stakeholders to include:
Building strategic internal and external partnerships for joint sustainability initiatives
Training and educating Henkel Sustainability Ambassadors
Perpetuating adherence, cooperation and alignment with product and packaging indexes
Driving cross functional participation in sustainability driven initiatives
Engagement and participation in internal and external sustainability leadership forums
Rob worked closely with other Henkel leaders in R&D and Sales in support of co-development for the foundation of TSC in 2008. In 2010, Rob received a Quest for Excellence in Sustainability award by Henkel North America.
In conjunction with his responsibility for sustainable business development, Rob leads an International Sales team across 14 countries responsible for sales of Adhesives, Laundry and Beauty Care for Henkel. Rob has been with Henkel for 16 years. Prior to his experience at Henkel, Rob worked for Coca-Cola Enterprises and he is a graduate of Arizona State University.
Roian Atwood is the Director of Sustainability for Wrangler, Lee jeans, and several other brands and geographic regions. Atwood leads brand sustainability strategy, engages suppliers globally to drive greater social and environmental performance, and works cross functionally with product development and marketing to create more sustainable products and share brand relevant stories.
With fifteen years’ experience in footwear & apparel sustainability, his diverse project management experience includes implementing renewables and discovering energy efficiency measures to project managing materials innovation pilots and leading teams into an action-oriented, results driven approach to corporate sustainability.
Atwood’s undergraduate work was in Complex Systems with Naropa University, and he holds a Master’s of Environmental Management from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University.
Ralph is currently the North American manager for product stewardship and sustainability with Bayer CropScience. In this role he is responsible for the oversight of the safe and effective use of Bayer?s product portfolio and how Bayer is helping growers meet the sustainability demands of the consumer. Ralph?s background is in production agriculture. He grew up on a family farm in Texas and also operated his own farm for a number of years. After receiving his Ph.D. in Entomology, he served for fourteen years as a Professor and Extension Entomologist before coming to work for Bayer. He has had varying roles with Bayer, mostly in areas of product development. This includes four years in global product development where he had the fortune to learn agricultural production systems in almost all areas of the world. His areas of expertise include Integrated Pest Management, agricultural production systems and agricultural landscape ecosystems. This background has been very beneficial in his current role to help production agriculture to adopt technologies and practices that benefit both the farmer and the environment.
Cheryl Baldwin, Ph.D.,ÿis a Vice President of Consulting for Pure Strategies where she partners with corporate clients to develop and execute strategies to improve sustainability performance across food, home and personal care, and cosmetics industries. Cheryl also leads the firms? global market research to generate new insights to accelerate business transformation.ÿ She wrote the book,ÿThe 10 Principles of Food Industry Sustainability and two other books on sustainability, along with holding U.S. and international patents.
Josh Balk has led efforts to enact animal welfare policies with many of the world?s largest companies, including Walmart, Wendy?s, Kroger, Denny?s and dozens more. These policies have helped shift the food industry?s reliance on veal crates, gestation crates and battery cages. He's also been a leader in creating and supporting start-up animal-friendly companies, including co-founding Hampton Creek, and guiding venture capital firms and high net worth individuals to invest in this space.
Carolyn Baltz joined The Sustainability Consortium on June 29, 2015. Prior to joining TSC, Carolyn dedicated 11 years to strengthening the membership efforts of the Arkansas Alumni Association at the University of Arkansas. Carolyn was instrumental in growing stewardship programs for members, engagement measurement practices and membership acquisition strategy. In addition to her expertise in relationship management, Carolyn led efforts to create and market a new brand identity for the Association. Carolyn received a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Journalism with a minor in Advertising and Public Relations. She currently volunteers for multiple non-profit organizations in the Northwest Arkansas area.
Cristian Barcan joined The Vinyl Institute (VI) in 2015 as the VP of Sustainability and Industry Affairs. Cristian brings with him two decades of experience in the chemical industry, with proven success in developing sustainability related business models for a wide range of products. Prior to VI, he served as Vice President of Business Development at UL's Information and Insights division (UL), where he was responsible for developing and promoting sustainability related business models for the company's supply chain engagement platform, as well as its B2C sustainability rating application systems.
Cristian also spent 18 years with BASF in a number of senior level positions, most recently as Head of Applied Sustainability for BASF Nutrition and Health North America, South America and Asia Pacific. During that time he developed a service package that helps consumer brands create and market more sustainable goods. Cristian introduced BASF as a core member of The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) and continues to engage with TSC on behalf of VI. He is also a speaker and panel participant at a number of global events including Sustainable Brands.
In his current role at The Vinyl Institute, Cristian Barcan is responsible for leading the organization?s overall campaign to advance the vinyl industry's sustainability commitment and progress, and build positive relationships with key influencers.
Cristian serves also as the Executive Director of the Vinyl Business & Sustainability Council. The Vinyl Business & Sustainability Council (VBSC) is the subject matter leader on sustainability issues and related technical, communications, and advocacy activities pertaining to the vinyl industry in North America. VBSC provides a collaboration platform that champions comprehensive science-based continuous improvement practices to meet the needs of current and future generations.
Patrick Beary leads the development of TNC’s food supply chain strategies in support of the Conservancy’s global conservation mission. His team is responsible for the Conservancy’s corporate and multi-stakeholder engagements with the global agriculture and food industries. Beary joined the Conservancy’s Corporate Engagement team in 2012. Previously he managed the Conservancy's Business Council. He is the current co-Chair of the Midwest Row Crop Collaborative and on the Board of Directors of The Sustainability Consortium.
Prior to joining the Conservancy, Patrick was the South American lead for an environmental and business consulting company working on corporate sustainability, strategy and ecosystem service valuation projects across the hemisphere. With an academic background in international studies and economics, he was the recipient of a Rotary Ambassadorial Fellowship to Buenos Aires, Argentina. He lives with his wife and two children in Illinois.
Nancy Bock is a Senior Vice President at the American Cleaning Institute? (ACI). She is a recognized leader in consumer affairs, outreach, communications, external relations, and partnership development and family and consumer sciences. For the past 35 years, she has been dedicated to designing campaigns, programs and materials that provide better living for individuals, families and communities.
In recent years, Ms. Bock has been a leader in developing partnerships with key organizations including The Sustainability Consortium, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Clean the World, American Society for Microbiology, National Education Association, American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Family, Career and Community Leaders of American, Cleaning for a Reason, National Poison Prevention Week and the Coin Laundry Association.
She is responsible for developing, managing and measuring the success of all consumer education programs and outreach activities for the American Cleaning Institute. She has published more than 200 educational tools during her tenure at ACI and has reached over one billion consumers since joining the ACI team.
She has served on numerous advisory committees and boards and currently serves on the Cleaning for a Reason Board of Directors, Clean the World Board of Directors, Family, Career and Community Leaders for America Board of Directors, Leading Authorities Event Advisory Board and the WVU Visiting Committee. She has received numerous awards for her educational programs.
Her multi-faceted work experience includes county, state and federal government (Department of Agriculture), faculty positions at two land grant universities (Cooperative Extension Service), non-profit associations (American Chemical Society and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) and business and industry (American Cleaning Institute).
Ms. Bock has a B.S and a M.S. degree in Education from West Virginia University.
Lawrence Bowdish started consulting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Center on its Issue Network research in May 2013. In addition to conducting and managing all of the research for the center, he also serves as the Issue Network lead for food security, where he concentrates on how the private sector contributes to the technology and innovations required to end hunger, improve nutrition, and eliminate food waste.
In addition to his work with the Foundation, Bowdish is a Professor for the American Military University. Previously, Lawrence was a Professor for the American Military University, teaching courses in U.S. History, Women?s History, and the History of Technology. He also worked as a consultant for county health departments that were instituting public health initiatives for youth and teens in the state of Florida.
Lawrence holds a Ph.D. in Modern American and Economic History from the Ohio State University, where he wrote a dissertation on consumer credit, and published articles on the mortgage and student loan markets. He has a B.A. in History and Economics from New College of Florida.
Boma Brown-West is Senior Manager of Consumer Health at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), focused on transforming retail supply chains in order to reduce people?s exposure to toxic chemicals. In her role, Ms. Brown-West works closely with product manufacturers and retailers such as Walmart on sustainability strategies that promote the development and usage of safer chemicals in consumer products. She also leads EDF?s initiative Behind the Label: a Blueprint for Safer Chemicals in the Marketplace that lays out a path to corporate leadership. Prior to working at EDF, Ms. Brown-West worked for a decade at Whirlpool Corporation in product engineering and product sustainability. Ms. Brown-West has an M.S. in Technology & Policy from MIT and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University.
Marie is a World Wide Director and Distinguished Fellow at Colgate-Palmolive Company. She leads the Product Sustainability initiative and the environmental and occupational toxicology programs at Colgate program. She has a Ph.D. in Toxicology and is board certified. She works closely with key functions within the company and interacts with suppliers to drive product sustainability initiatives and improvements. Marie has her graduate degree from Rutgers University and her academic research focused on environmental contaminants and bird growth.
Tim Carey is the Senior Director for Sustainability and Recycling at PepsiCo Beverages in North America. He is responsible for developing and implementing the sustainability vision and strategy for the beverages businesses and reducing their environmental and social impacts. Tim co-founded and launched PepsiCo?s US consumer recycling program and sustainable fertilizer initiatives. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Keep America Beautiful. Tim work previously at Hewlett-Packard and in Berkshire Hathaway at Johns Manville before PepsiCo.
Our keynote speaker for April 12th will be Jason Clay, Senior Vice President for Markets and Food at World Wildlife Fund, who works with some of the world?s largest companies to reduce their impact on the environment. In addition to his work with WWF, Jason is the author of 20 books and is National Geographic?s first-ever Food and Sustainability Fellow. He created one of the first US fair-trade ecolabels and has been involved in developing many other standards for commodities such as cotton, shrimp and sugarcane.
Christopher Cooke is the Senior Director of Technical Development at the Sustainability Consortium where he oversees the creation TSC's tools for sustainability measurement and reporting. Prior to joining The Consortium, Christopher developed an energy sustainability strategy and action plan for the government of Hawaii Island. While with the New York Academy of Sciences, he investigated clean technology policy for New York State. Christopher holds a Master of Environment Science degree from Yale University, where he studied industrial ecology and conducted research in life cycle assessment. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from New York University.
Dr. Kevin Dooley is a Professor of Supply Chain Management and a Dean's Council of 100 Distinguished Scholars in the WP Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He is Chief Scientist of The Sustainability Consortium, developing science and tools to improve the sustainability of consumer goods. Dr. Dooley is a world-known expert in the application of complexity science to help organizations improve. He has published over 100 research articles and co-authored an award-winning book, "Organizational Change and Innovation Processes". He is on several journal editorial boards including Journal of Supply Chain Management and Journal of Business Logistics. He has been awarded two patents on Centering Resonance Analysis, a novel form of network text analysis, and is co-founder and CEO of Crawdad Technologies, LLC, a provider of text analysis software for academics of Business at Arizona State University.
Elisabeth Fischer is the Head of Good Growth Plan Customer Marketing, for Switzerland-based Syngenta Corporation. She leads a global team that supports the company?s business objectives through implementing an agricultural sustainability agenda and reports on progress towards the ambitious Good Growth Plan targets.
Elisabeth joined Syngenta as a Public Policy and Sustainability manager in 2012, based at the company?s Headquarters in Basel. In 2016, she relocated to Greensboro, NC, to support the North American Sustainable Solutions team with the implementation of auditable reporting frameworks for farm data. Elisabeth has a MA in Economics and a PhD in Agricultural Sciences. Her research work focuses on linking small-scale farmers in developing countries to high-value markets. She grew up in Berlin, Germany.

Lloyd is the Director of Forests and Climate for WWF-US and serves as the REDD+ Multilateral Finance Lead for WWF’s Global Forest and Climate Program. In the last decade, developed countries have committed several billion dollars in climate finance to efforts to reduce tropical forest loss and associated greenhouse gas emissions. Lloyd leads WWF’s efforts to ensure that these funds are spent effectively – in ways that directly address the major drivers of deforestation (e.g., like unplanned agricultural conversion) but also respect the rights and livelihoods of Indigenous Peoples and local, forest-dependent communities. After representing Northern Civil Society as an Official Observer at the World Bank’s Forest Carbon Partnership Facility for several years, Lloyd now works with WWF teams and their partners in countries like Nepal, DRC, Indonesia and Peru to design and advance successful jurisdictional programs to reduce deforestation and degradation.
Lloyd has a M.S. and Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology at the University of Massachusetts. After completing his graduate work, Lloyd moved to Washington to work on international environmental policy with the U.S. State Department, where he worked for two years before joining WWF.
Eric is the Director of Sustainable Sourcing for Monsanto, starting his career in September 2016. Eric works with various stakeholders in the food value chain around sustainabile sourcing challenges, solutions, developments, and ideas. He works with farmers, national and regional commodity boards, as well as consumer goods companies, food manufacturers, retailers, and NGOs, with an end goal of providing sustainable food sources to consumers globally. His main initiatives are creating a platform to sustainably source commodity crops, potentially certifying these crops on a global level for food companies worldwide, as well as building campaigns to speak to consumers about how their food is grown and produced across the value chain.
Eric began his career in pharmaceutical sales for Pfizer. After various roles, he moved into account management for cranial staplers with Covidien, followed by a role as regional account manager for Kimberly Clark in their spinal and knee division. After 16 years in healthcare, he made the transition to agriculture to develop a sustainable future for the production, sale, and consumption of food.
Eric has a BS in biochemistry from University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Masters in International Business from St. Louis University.
Jessica Ginger is the Director of Implementation at The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) where she leads and coordinates global implementation projects with retailers, TSC members, and other users of TSC tools and services. She also runs TSC’s service provider training program and supplier support services. Jessica’s passion for social sustainability has been the driving force behind her 13 years of global, multi-stakeholder, and multi-issue experiences. Prior to joining TSC in 2013, Jessica managed partnerships in Africa and the Middle East for the AmeriCares Foundation where she worked to improve the quality and increase the quantity of medical aid delivered to marginalized populations. She also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Moldova and was a Technical Advisory Committee Member for the UNDP's 2014 Equator Prize. Jessica received her M.A. in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University and her B.S. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University.
Mark established PRé in 1990 and pioneered the field of LCA. As CEO and chair of PRé 's management team, Mark focuses his efforts on exploring and initiating new developments and building relationships between industry experts, businesses and other organizations.
Mark is widely recognized as an international thought leader in the field of sustainability metrics and methodology development. His primary goal is to help companies create value from sustainable products and services. While with PRé , Mark has developed pioneering methodologies for impact assessment (Eco-indicator 95/99 and ReCiPe). He has also published seminal studies on sustainable consumption, rebounds, and product service systems methodology, as well as initiating development of the world?s most widely used LCA software, SimaPro.
Prior to founding PRé , Mark was a partner in a small industrial design consultancy, where he developed, among other things, special tools for the Dutch Railroad maintenance staff to use in their work on overhead electric wires, an anesthesia ventilator (which received an international IF design award), and text telephones for deaf people (before the invention of SMS). Mark's career in industrial design began at Demotech-1 in the 70's where he was inspired by open source technology and the "small is beautiful" movement. This led him to attempt to develop a completely new way of producing metal parts on a very small scale. While this attempt was largely unsuccessful, he remained focused on the goal of developing practical yet scientifically sound solutions for improving the environmental and social performance of products and services.
Mark holds a Master of Science in industrial design engineering from Delft University of Technology.
Rachel is the Global Sustainability Senior Manager for Packaging and External Reporting at Mars, Incorporated. She leads an internal sustainable packaging working group and Mars’ external engagement in key partnerships such the New Plastics Economy, the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and the Sustainability Consortium. Rachel is on the Board of Directors for Green Blue. She leads the external sustainability reporting work across a range of platforms and disclosures such as CDP and customer scorecards. She also implements programs on sustainability related claims, and is the sustainability subject matter expert for Mars’ Global Horizon Scanning capability
Prior to Mars, Rachel was the Team Leader of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP), a voluntary program that encourages methane emissions reductions through the capture and beneficial use of landfill gas. She was also the lead for this work in India, China and Southeast Asia under the Global Methane Initiative. Rachel was in the health, safety and environmental field before joining EPA.
Rachel has an MBA with an Environmental Management Concentration from The George Washington University, and a B.S. Human Factors Engineering from Tufts University
Natalie Hall is a Senior Manager of Sustainability & Quality Operations with a driving passion for leading general merchandise sustainability projects that support the Walmart corporate goals. She works closely with internal and external stakeholders to align in planning large scale initiatives and processes. Her career with Walmart began in 2012 as a Manager I of Apparel Quality Assurance. Then in 2014, she moved to Manager II of Apparel Operations & Softline Sustainability. In January 2018, Natalie was promoted to Senior Manager of Sustainability & Quality Operations. Her career consists of managing teams in the quality assurance, compliance and sourcing areas for specialty apparel retailers. Natalie graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL with a Master of Science in Textiles. And, she received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, LA. She lives in Bentonville, AR with her husband, Jay of 11 years and 7 year old son, Thatcher. They enjoy spending time outdoors cycling, hiking and camping.
Jeff reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer as an Applied Sustainability Manager at General Mills located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.ÿ During his 17 year career at the company, he?s been instrumental in bringing environmental sustainability to the forefront by first building reliable compliance management systems followed by creating environmental metrics and forward looking indicators that brought change to his organization.ÿ In 2005 he pioneered water reuse in one of General Mills? largest plants, one of the first in the food industry. Currently, he has accountability for global watershed stewardship efforts, packaging sustainability improvements, customer sustainability relationships and accounting for the company?s value chain GHG footprint.
Mr. Hanratty holds a bachelor?s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a master?s degree in EHS Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology.ÿ He is registered as a Professional Engineer and is a Certified Safety Professional.
Pat Hayes joined the newly formed Responsible Battery Coalition in January 2017 as its Executive Director. Pat brings 25 years of experience with Fortune 500 companies including over 21 years with Procter & Gamble, first as an environmental engineer, then leading P&G’s State Government Relations organization. He has extensive experience working with coalitions, associations, governmental and non-governmental organizations to advance public policy and promote public/private partnerships. Pat has a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Christopher Helt is the Senior Manager of Technical Development at The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), Arizona State University, responsible for the development of the Sustainability Measurement and Reporting System for manufactured and formulated goods supply chains. In addition, he is the Principal Researcher for Leadership Initiatives at TSC related to human health impacts associated with consumer product use. As such, he manages the Common Chemical Criteria Task Force at TSC which aims to provide a common framework to enhance communication regarding chemical safety among broad stakeholders.
Prior to joining TSC, Chris worked for Colgate-Palmolive Company (Piscataway, NJ) as a Senior Research Scientist in their Global Product Safety Department. Chris earned a PhD in Toxicology (2004) from the University of Rochester and a BS in Biochemistry (1997) from The Pennsylvania State University. His academic research focused on the DNA damage response following oxidative stress.
Judith Hochhauser Schneider is Director, Private Sector Engagement at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) where she manages some of WWF’s largest global transformational partnerships with multinational organizations, including The Coca-Cola Company and Walmart. Her work focuses on water stewardship, sustainably sourced agricultural commodities, and deforestation strategies including jurisdictional approach. Her geographic focus areas include China and the MesoAmerican Reef in Central America.
Prior to WWF, Judith worked at PwC in the Sustainable Business Solutions advisory practice, advising clients on sustainability strategies in a variety of sectors including private equity, manufacturing, and consumer package goods.
Before joining PwC, Judith worked for DuPont, driving the integration of sustainability into growth strategies and functional areas including Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance. Judith spent her 8 years at DuPont working within business units, as well as at the corporate level on the Sustainable Growth Excellence team, focusing on carbon markets, sustainability strategy, green marketing, sustainable packaging, and emerging markets.
Judith is a LEED® Accredited Professional and Six Sigma Green Belt Certified. She holds an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and a BA from Binghamton University in Environmental Science. She currently lives with her family in Washington, DC.
Kara Hurst leads the development and evolution of sustainability and social responsibility at Amazon worldwide. Utilizing Amazon's scale, speed and innovation, Hurst’s teams focus on Amazon’s key social and environmental opportunities across all of Amazon's business areas globally. Our programs include responsible supply chain management, social responsibility in Amazon operations, Frustration Free Packaging and eCommerce packaging standards, renewable energy and energy efficiency, eWaste, product take-back, hazardous waste, and social and environmental policy setting.
Previous to Amazon, Hurst served as the CEO of The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) - named one of Scientific American's "Top Ten World Changing Ideas" of 2012. With over $2.4 trillion in revenue, TSC members consist of leading corporations, NGOs, Universities and government and regulatory agencies. Through this network, TSC members form a global, collaborative network focused on building a foundation of scientifically based business tools to drive improvements in consumer product sustainability.
Prior to TSC, Hurst served as Vice President of BSR, where she spent eleven years. Hurst built several global industry practices, led BSR's NY and DC offices, as well the global partnership practice with governments, multi-laterals and foundations. Hurst also oversaw the annual BSR Conference.
Previous other work includes: as a founding member of the EICC, Hurst initiated the original EICC working group, bringing together six large technology companies, and facilitated the industry initiative in responsible supply chain management through its first several years, including constructing the Code of Conduct. Hurst also applied this concept to other sectors, including pharmaceuticals, to establish meaningful industry partnerships such as the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI). Hurst worked with GE's corporate citizenship team for eight years as well as Hyatt's executive team to build their first CSR platform.
Prior to BSR, Hurst worked in Silicon Valley as Executive Director of the public-private venture OpenVoice and as a Manager of Corporate Affairs for the Children’s Health Council. Early in her career, she has held roles at the Urban Institute as a Research lead and worked for two elected officials – Mayor Willie Brown of San Francisco and in New York for the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY).

Amit Jain is an ?Ecowarrior? determined to mitigate climate change through his various projects he is involved in professionally and personally. He currently is Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability for Pharmavite, the Makers of Nature Made? where is shifting the paradigm to a purpose-driven organization. In the past, he was part of a small team developing the Los Angeles Green Business Certification Program, the largest in the nation. He was a consultant working with various Cleantech startups and green businesses in Southern California altogether providing guidance to over 100 companies. Amit was Entrepreneurship Graduate Student of the Year and Kauffman Internship Award-winner at Loyola Marymount University, where he received his MBA. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional. He acquired a Certificate in Sustainable Business Management from University of California Irvine. Amit is Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) certified practitioner, the world?s largest corporate social responsibility reporting framework. Amit has been a sustainability expert for GOOD Magazine while also being a speaker and contributor to various conferences concerning sustainability and green jobs across the nation.
Jonathan Johnson is the Walton College Professor of Sustainability in the Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, where he has been on the faculty since 1996. He graduated with a BS in zoology and an MBA from the University of Arkansas before earning a Ph.D. from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. His research?which has appeared in numerous academic journals?focuses on corporate governance, social networks theory, and corporate sustainability, and he has served on the editorial review board of the Academy of Management Journal. Jon teaches strategy, organization theory, sustainability and ethics. Jon has led several sustainability initiatives at the University of Arkansas, including establishing the Applied Sustainability Center in 2007, and co-founding The Sustainability Consortium in 2009.
Matt Kopac is the Sustainable Business & Innovation Manager for Burt?s Bees, a leading natural health and beauty care business. Matt helps set and drive sustainability strategy within all functions and throughout the value chain to ensure the brand continues to deliver on its commitments to social and environmental responsibility. His scope spans responsible sourcing, sustainable packaging, operational footprint management, sustainability measurement, customer and industry engagement, and employee engagement. Matt is also a champion of community and culture, directing community service efforts and serving as Vice President of The Burt?s Bees Greater Good Foundation.
Michelle has 20 years of experience working with companies and investors to develop, scale and finance solutions to improve the intersection of natural resource and business decision-making and outcomes. She has worked with some of the world’s largest companies across the Fortune 500 and their supply chains, including Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Shell, Dow and Starbucks, as well as the International Finance Corporation. She is currently Vice President of The Earth Genome. The Earth Genome develops powerful decision support tools that enable public and private sector leaders to evaluate scenarios associated with water, food and energy security, and other forms of ‘natural capital’ in order to make better decisions and investments. Recently Michelle was a director at the Closed Loop Fund & Foundation.
Michelle has held management positions at Gap Inc., Business for Social Responsibility, the Global Health & Safety Initiative, and The Nature Conservancy as well as her own consultancy, SustainBiz, LLC. Her work with Dow and Shell demonstrating that natural infrastructure can be a viable and cost effective alternative to traditional infrastructure has been published by Harvard Business Review. Michelle is on the Steering Groups of the Natural Capital Coalition and the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leadership, and is the Board Chair of Young Women Social Entrepreneurs. She has a M.S. in environmental management from USF, where she also taught a joint MS-MBA degree program, a B.A. in behavioral biology and public health from Johns Hopkins University, and was an Environmental Leadership Program fellow.
Dr. Karen K. Leonas is a Professor in the Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management Department. Dr. Leonas has her B.S. in Textile Chemistry from NC State, a M.S. and PhD from the University of Tennessee in Textile Chemistry/Textile Physics with an emphasis in Polymer Engineering. She enjoys working with industry as was employed by Burlington Industries, Industrial Fabrics Division where she was the Product Assurance Manager for the Aerospace Program prior to joining academia. Her research interests include product development and evaluation, decision making through the supply chain and currently research focuses on sustainability through the Fashion, Textile, Apparel and Retail supply chain – from concept to consumer. Previous significant areas of research include Barrier Effectiveness of Textiles to Challenge Agents (bacteria, pesticides, chemical, and liquids) and Degradation and Weathering Mechanisms of Polymeric Materials in laboratory and field environments. Dr. Leonas has received numerous recognitions for excellence in research, teaching and student advising. She current serves as co-chair of the Clothing, Footwear and Textile Committee of TSC.
Dr. Sarah E. Lewis is passionate about working through challenges at the interface of humans and the environment. A leader in the field of sustainability, Sarah is a certified Sustainability Associate (ISSP-SA), an author on topics related to ecological integrity, water resources, and improving supply chain sustainability. Sarah is Senior Director of Innovation with The Sustainability Consortium (TSC). Through her work at TSC, she has led the development of supply chain sustainability metrics across the consumer goods industry, led the creation of TSC’s stakeholder engagement methodology, founded TSC implementation program, launched the first ever TSC Innovation Program, and founded TSC Idea Forum, TSC’s first leadership development program. Sarah holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Dynamics, a Master of Arts in French, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and French Secondary Education. An award-winning educator, Sarah has taught Earth Science, French, and Environmental Sociology. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Arkansas, serving on several graduate student research committees. She is active in her community. She is on the Board of Directors for the Walton Arts Center and for Arkansas United, an organization that empowers Arkansas immigrants through advocacy and service. In 2008, the Arkansas Sierra Club recognized Sarah as Activist of the Year. She is a former board member of the Illinois River Watershed Partnership and served a 4-year term as an elected official on the Fayetteville, Arkansas City Council where she founded the Environmental Action Committee, wrote and sponsored the Low Impact Development ordinance, and led the development and adoption of Fayetteville’s Streamside Protection Ordinance, the first in the State of Arkansas. Her highest honor, however, is that she is the mom of, Isaac, a beautiful little boy who inspires her every day.

A renowned author and champion of sustainable development for over 35 years, Hunter has consulted on sustainable agriculture, energy, water, security, and climate policies for scores of governments, communities, and companies worldwide. Within the United States, she has consulted for the Presidential Cabinet, Department of Defense, EPA, Department of Energy and numerous state and local agencies.
Alexis?s expertise lies in water stewardship, valuation and approaches to market-based conservation. He has spent fifteen years working with WWF, the global conservation organization, on business and biodiversity solutions with a focus on freshwater. He spent four years coordinating the development of the Alliance for Water Stewardship?s Standard and has worked with extensively with food and beverage companies on agricultural water challenges. He has also consulted for World Bank, The Nature Conservancy and has served on the International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling (ISEAL) Stakeholder Council. He is a past lecturer in environmental economics at Simon Fraser University, has published on water valuation, freshwater biodiversity issues, and currently leads WWF's Water Risk Filter and emerging work on context-based water metrics. Alexis holds a BA, an MSc in urban hydrology and a sustainability-oriented MBA. He resides in Vancouver, Canada with his partner and family.
Adam Muellerweiss is Executive Director of Sustainability for Johnson Controls Power Solutions – the world’s largest manufacturer and recycler of automotive batteries. Muellerweiss is responsible for driving life-cycle material and energy management efforts including the company’s circular supply chain for conventional vehicle batteries. This model has been globally recognized as a successful large-scale example of a circular economy. His charge includes working with automakers, aftermarket retailers, suppliers, NGOs and policymakers to optimize sustainable product design, expand product use benefits, increase use of reverse logistics and grow end-of-life reuse and recycling.
Muellerweiss was the driving force behind the formation the Responsible Battery Coalition, a coalition of companies, academics and NGOs committed to the responsible management of the batteries of today and tomorrow. He chairs the Landscape Assessment of End-of-Life Management of Lithium Ion Batteries for the Suppliers Partnership for the Environment and is a subject matter expert supporting the development of the World Economic Forum’s Global Battery Alliance.
Prior to joining Johnson Controls, Muellerweiss was Commercial Director for Climate Change at Dow Chemical where he also led the formation of the Independent Advisory Panel on Chemical Security as well as managed the company’s Sustainability External Advisory Council. He led development of start-up companies focused on resource efficiency at Accenture, and served as a staff assistant for the US Senate and the Michigan House of Representatives. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music and political science from Kalamazoo College and a master’s in sustainability and environmental management from Harvard University.

John Mulcahy is Vice President of Sustainability for Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products LP, where he is responsible for the sustainability and corporate social responsibility programs for our Consumer, GP PRO, and Nonwovens businesses. John works to develop collaborative relationships with our customers, helping them to achieve their sustainability objectives by developing insights, building cost and value advantages into our products, and providing assurance that GP is a responsible and ethical supplier.
John serves in a leadership capacity for several industry associations, including the Foodservice Packaging Institute, INDA, and The Sustainability Consortium. In his free time, John volunteers with The Boy Scouts of America and is on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Georgia. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and two sons.

Euan Murray became Chief Executive of The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) in December 2016 with a focus on driving implementation of TSC tools by retailers and large purchasers, and working with TSC members on innovative solutions to supply chain sustainability problems. Murray joined TSC in 2012 and has held a number of leadership positions, most recently COO. Prior to joining TSC, Murray was Director of Footprinting at The Carbon Trust. There, he led projects with PepsiCo, Unilever, M&S, CDP and many other TSC members, focusing on product and supply chain carbon footprinting. He has held a number of other roles in sustainability, financial services and strategy consulting. Murray has a BA in Natural Sciences and an MSc. in Materials Science & Metallurgy from Cambridge University, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. He is married to Emily and has two sons, Oscar and Zac.

Paul is a Senior Associate with the Water Program and Business Center, and is responsible for guiding the design and development of WRI?s Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas and managing WRI?s corporate engagement on water. Paul has worked with numerous companies in the food and beverage, oil & gas, consumer goods, and apparel sectors on water risk assessments and stewardship strategies. Cathy Resler is the Head of Global Sustainability for Ocean Spray Cranberries - a Farmer-Owned Cooperative - where she leads sustainability strategy across the Cooperative, with Ocean Spray farmers and business partners. Her work on environmental and social responsibility initiatives focuses on building value across sustainable agriculture, operations, supply chain, sales, marketing, and customer and employee engagement, She led the expansion and first publication of Ocean Spray’s Farm Sustainability Assessment a comprehensive report of 700+ cranberry farmers performance on Integrated Pest Management, soil health, water, energy, ecosystem conservation, business stewardship, worker well-being and community impact.
Prior to joining Ocean Spray Cranberries, Cathy worked in the fashion, jewelry, and publishing industries contributing to the first industry adopted Restricted Substance List (RSL), Responsible Down and Wool Standards, Environmental Paper Assessment Tool (EPAT), sustainable textiles and leather, sustainable forestry management, packaging design, green store design guidelines, and community giving program development. She also has worked at the U.S. EPA, Columbia University and holds an MS in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and a BS from The George Washington University in Environmental Studies.
Nancy Roulston is the ASPCA?s Director of Corporate Engagement for the Farm Animal Dept. Nancy works to build a more humane and transparent farming system by advising food companies on their animal welfare policies, practices, and procurement. In addition, Nancy helps consumers identify welfare-certified brands with the ASPCA?s Shop With Your Heart program. Prior to the ASPCA, Nancy ran an animal welfare consulting business with international clients, was 1 of 11 internationally chosen recipients of the Marie Curie Research Fellowship for the EU Project BioBusiness, and has written animal welfare standards for certification programs and private companies. Nancy holds a MSc in Animal Welfare Science from the University of Guelph (Canada)
Georgia Rubenstein is a Principal Change Designer in Forum for the Future’s Brooklyn office, working with internal and external partners to experiment and explore how to drive the system-level change needed for a sustainable future. Her work focuses on process design and facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and system change practice. Georgia recently led Forum’s multi-year Beauty & Personal Care Sustainability Project, working with retailers, brands, suppliers, and NGOs in the beauty and personal care sector to collaboratively tackle barriers to bringing more sustainable products to consumers.
Prior to joining Forum, Georgia led the development of the sustainability program at Environmental Initiative, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit that convenes stakeholders to collaboratively solve environmental challenges. Georgia holds a BA in International Development from McGill University and a Master in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Ben Ruddell is an Associate Professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems at Northern Arizona University, the President of Ruddell Environmental consulting, and the Director of the FEWSion project. His PhD is in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His professional experiences are in the fields of civil engineering, water resources, systems analysis, ecology/ecohydrology, and engineering research and education in an interdisciplinary university setting. His research interests fall broadly in the area of the quantification and management of complex coupled natural-human systems, including regional water and climate systems strongly influenced by the human economy and society- such as in cities, energy, and agriculture.
A Northern California native, Ryan Schohr is a sixth generation California Farmer whose family has been farming in the Sacramento Valley for over 150 years. Raised on a family farm just west of Gridley, Ryan attended local schools, including California State University, Chico.
Ryan spent time with the California State Senate Republican Caucus helping craft state agriculture, natural resources and water policies. Ryan was also bestowed a fellowship in the 33rd Class of the prestigious California Agricultural Leadership Program.
Back home, Ryan has worked to diversify and enhance the family farming business. Today, their farming operation includes medium grain rice, hay, cattle, walnuts, wetland management, and trucking. In 2011 the California State Fair recognized Ryan?s family and the Schohr Ranch for their 150th year of continued business in the state.
Recognizing the value of collaboration, Ryan recently partnered with 3 other neighboring farmers to launch a new, vertically integrated packaged food product business under the brand name of Genesis Grains. The company offers premium Calrose rice, sustainably grown on their own farms, direct to consumers, restaurants, and food service organizations. Their Calrose rice was awarded "The World's Best Rice" at an international competition in Kuala Lumpur.
Ryan is a leader in the agriculture industry having served as President of the Butte County Farm Bureau.
Ryan has been married to his wife Holly Whittaker, an epidemiologist and an Oklahoma native, for over 11 years. They are proud parents of a two year old son, Brock.
Tracy works in KúCoe Isom?s Chico office as a Farmer Outreach Specialist, focusing on environmental market opportunities for California cattlemen such as habitat markets, carbon credits, etc. Her experience working with ranchers in California through her time with California Cattlemen?s Association lends to her deep knowledge of how the industry balances environmental, social, and economic sustainability issues while operating a profitable business. She has experience in facilitating collaboration amongst disparate interest groups for common missions, translating science into policy and public awareness, along with driving new initiatives and processes. Tracy is excited to work with farmers and ranchers regarding their agricultural businesses, specifically enhancing profitability while, at the same time, overcoming environmental challenges and being socially responsible.
She graduated from University of California, Davis with a master?s in horticulture and agronomy, and California State University, Chico with a bachelor?s in agricultural business. Tracy has strong agricultural roots and a breadth of experience as an active partner in her family?s multi-generational farming operation that includes cattle, hay, rice and walnuts.
As Senior Vice President of Innovation, Research, & Sustainability, Adam Siegel leads RILA?s (R)Tech Center for Innovation, along with its research and sustainability offerings. His role at RILA is to accelerate the next phase of innovation and growth for traditional consumer brands, given disruptive trends like the internet and mobile shopping, 3D printing, social media, demographic shifts, changing consumption patterns, new retail models, and big data. An engineer with an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, Siegel has consulted for numerous companies including Staples, IBM, and Seventh Generation, as well as for leaders in the transportation and energy sectors. He has experience with the Environmental Defense Fund?s Corporate Partnerships Program, where he worked with the private equity firm KKR and their portfolio companies.
Christy Melhart Slay directs the research and partnership activities for The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) to develop a global, transparent, scientifically-based measurement and reporting system for product sustainability. She leads efforts with strategic partners to ensure TSC's metrics, tools, and reporting systems are harmonized and interoperable with existing initiatives. She also leads TSC's Commodity Mapping Program to develop spatial models for identification of agricultural and wood fiber commodity source regions and works with companies to map their commodity supply chains and related environmental and social risks. Christy develops and leads hands-on training and field courses as well as other projects to implement TSC tools within businesses.
Christy has been with TSC since its inception in 2009. She received her doctorate in biology from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. She has researched and published on population ecology and conservation management. Additionally, she participates in cave ecology research in the U.S. and Belize. Christy has 14 years of experience as an educator in both collegiate and environmental education settings. Prior to her graduate research she spent 5 years in curriculum development and strategic planning with environmental non-profit organizations including the National Audubon Society where she also authored articles for Audubon Magazine in New York. She received her B.A. in biology with a minor in religion from Hendrix College.
Terry Stone directs regulatory affairs initiatives for Agrinos, working closely with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders on a global level. He also leads the development of Agrinos’ sustainability programs, partnering with customers and other public and private organizations to demonstrate and quantify the value of Agrinos products as an important part of their sustainability initiatives. Terry joined Agrinos as Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Sustainability Programs in 2015. Prior to joining Agrinos he held leadership roles with Syngenta, The Scotts Company and Monsanto working in global regulatory affairs, sustainability, industry relations and research and development. He has earned Master’s degrees in International Business and Entomology.
Rachel is a sustainable business strategist and leader focused on integrating sustainability and corporate responsibility into the operation and culture of large-scale businesses. At Sodexo, she develops and manages a wide range of global and national initiatives to advance environmental sustainability, wellness, and women’s empowerment while enhancing and protecting customer value and corporate performance. Rachel also developed and led the first enterprise-wide sustainability function for U.S. Foods, the second largest food distributor in North America. She has advised Ford Motor Company, Volvo, the U.S. EPA and others on integrating business strategy and sustainability and she holds both an M.B.A. and M.S. from the University of Michigan with a focus on sustainable business strategy.
Marco Ugarte is accountable for environmental sustainability at MillerCoors and is the ecipient of the 2015 Young Hispanic Corporate Achiever award. As entrepreneur, has received awards from MIT, ASU, Walmart, and NASDAQ. He holds a PhD in Sustainability from Arizona State University and professional certifications from APICS and ASQ.
Kristin is co-owner of Duncanson Growers, a diversified family farm operation located south of Mankato in Mapleton, MN. She is former Chairman and current Board Member of the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council, and a key advisor to stakeholders working on positive environmental outcomes in agriculture. Kristin has a background in agriculture and food policy and legislation. She is a leader and strong communicator on the intersection between agriculture and the environment. She has worked in Washington D.C., as an intern and then legislative staff to Senator Boschwitz (MN). In Minnesota, she worked as a territory manager and marketing director for Hubbard Milling Company. She has served on association boards in leadership roles and continues to engage in the Upper Midwest on environmental and agriculture throughout the region.
Adam Whinston is an innovative Social & Environmental Sustainability professional, driving change in global manufacturing through the implementation of creative solutions for challenging operational environments. He has led social and environmental responsibility programs at JCPenney and Hewlett-Packard and is currently Director of Supply Chain Assessments & Solutions at SGS North America. In that role Mr. Whinston develops services to help clients monitor, evaluate & improve conditions in global facilities to comply with regulatory requirements such as Trafficking-in-Persons FAR 52.222-50, UK Modern Slavery Act, California Transparency in Supply Chain Act (CATISCA) and Conflict Minerals legislation, not to mention global labor compliance standards. These customers include large retailers of apparel, footwear, furniture, electronics and toys as well as US government contractors, universities and other commercial enterprises. Mr. Whinston is a graduate of University of California, San Diego?s Graduate School of Global Policy and Strategy and speaks French, Spanish and Mandarin.
Joseph Wozniak has over 15 years experience in international trade and development. He heads the Trade for Sustainable Development programme (T4SD) at ITC where he is responsible for the development and implementation of the Standards Map website and its related tools. Prior to this he worked for KPMG LLP and as a Senior Economist with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) in Washington, D.C. He was responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the Agency’s portfolio and the development of analytical tools for the impact assessment of OPIC’s emerging markets investment projects in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and consumer products.
